I'll have an eye out for the Voice Talent, as it will go a loooooooooooooong way to making this series a success stateside.

Not sure if I'll regret saying this, but I really hope you do your job right. Naoko Watanebe was wonderful as Vampire Princess Miyu, but the American voice actress for the TV series just had no life. Be sure to do Guu some justice.

With the exception of the Pixar dubs for the Miyazaki anime films, I have rarely been satisfied with ANY anime dubs (and still prefer to watch even THOSE with subtitles instead).

That said, please do NOT go the way of some series by releasing the DVDs with no original audio track! Some things I've seen had ONLY the English dub, and were difficult to watch.

So, whatever you do with the dubbing, please include the original audio and GOOD subtitles with an option for cultural notes.

^ AN has always included the original track and extensive cultural notes in their releases (both printed and on the disc.) I'm sure you'll be pleased with this release as well.

A lot of my DVDs have never had the English audio tracks turned on, heh.

As a general rule I enjoy watching anime subbed, ever since my first experience with dubbed versions (Love Hina).
Though, if the dub is good I can easily see myself rather watching that. Enthusiasm with the roles makes a good dub. Jungle Wa is a series with VERY enthusiastic lines, with the exception of Guu (the way she speaks is priceless). If this facet of the characters is kept intact with the english voices I believe that I myself will enjoy it more than the subs. Almost all of the animes that are aired in the US have very good dubs and that's the reason why I think they are the ones chosen to air over those with, in my opinion, superior stories. GTO is an example of a good dub. It's a lot easier to laugh at a joke if it's delivered well in your native language rather than having to read it. Though, I'd very much rather read the joke and enjoy the tone of the foreign character's voice than listen to the same joke in english with a lesser delivery.

I'm actually looking very much foreward to the Dub release of Hare+Guu, I can't wait to experiance the show all over again in a new languare and interperatation of things. I admit that finding a voice for Hare will prove to be horribly difficult due to the nature of his lines, but I know it can be done!

I've even gone as far as to cast the English version in my head, like putting Mary Elizabeth McGlynn in the role of Bell. She'd be perfect ^^

Agreed, tell us? Still, if they really had worked them out by now, why would it just be one minor character that ANN's got the name of?

Today I just returned from Otakon in Baltimore which contained a preview of Hare + Guu Dubbed. The first two episodes were completely dubbed, but the credits had not yet been translated. I recognised a couple voices, which I am 90% sure I am correct on:

Weda - Wendee Lee
Reji, renamed Mr. Lazy - Kirk Thornton

I couldn't quite identify the voice actress of Hare, but I'm definately leaning towards it being Barbara Goodson.

Overall, it looks like Hare+Guu is going to taking on board a loty of the actors/actresses in the Dynasty Warriors/Fushigi Yuugi ring. Do not worry, I thought very positively of the preview and I hope you all will be just as pleased with the great voice work. My only complaint is the renaming of some of the characters (Reji to Mr. Lazy, Mari to Marie) but I think in the long run it's wonderful work.

I can't wait to own it!

well, renaming people was a slightly bad move, the people who watched the japanese version will know who they mean. Can't wait to hear the voice overs myself!

I saw the dub preview episodes too, at Anime Expo. I can understand the 'Mr. Lazy' thing, because if you transliterate 'Lazy' into katakana you get Reiji. AN probably changed it so people who aren't familiar with the katakana writing/pronunciation system would get the point of the character's name. (At least, I assume that was originally the point of his name.)

Mari --> Marie annoyed me, though.

The dub of HareGuu suprised the hell out of me at Otakon. Great stuff. It's twenty-million and two steps ahead of Right Stuf's iffy dub of 2x2 Shinobuden, I've gotta say.

In regards to the changing of names in the dub: Don't be too concerned until the final product is out. At the Q&A session AN Ent had later that day (Bandai bailed on us fans, the PUNKS), they mentioned that the dub used in the screening was still a pre-production version, and that while it was close to the final version, a few things were still to be tweaked (namely the pronunciation of names). However, I was incredibly impressed with the dub. I consider it to be at least on par with the early Ranma 1/2 dubs, which are the standard that I hold all other dubs to. Expect great things from this title. From what I've seen at Otakon, they're doing a first rate job.

Yes, I have to agree, the dubs are on par with the Ranma dubs, which are fantastic. My only problem with it is that they don't pronounce Wiggle's name as Wiggle, and in the credits he's actually called Uighur! That's some Engrish for ya!

It's an adequate dub. I pretty much never watch dubs, though. ^_^* Hale's voice actress impressed me though. It's impossible for Guu to be as awesome as her Japanese counterpart, but she's not bad.

"Uighur" is just messed up, though.
