Lets get straight to the meat!

Any general idea as to the release of the first DVD? An exact release date is out of the question, obviously, but perhaps a ballpark guess?

What about disc art? Any chance of that? Or reversible covers? Or a collectible box?

In fact... Does AN or Anime Nation plan to make/import any assorted merchandise related to the series? I can't help but think of a hat shaped like Guu. That's what the world needs. Guu, eating the youth of america in the form of a cap.

Good questions Tavin!

We're shooting for a late-summer release, as soon as we nail down a definite date we'll announce it ASAP.

The discs will be screened just as the Japanese versions were, is that what you are asking about Disc Art? Your other ideas are also ones we've considered. A lot of copyright issues come into play that require the approval of several companies and artists, especially when it comes to printed art and merchandise.

Thanks for the response, Krystyn :)

A Summer/Fall release sounds spectacular. I was afraid that with the notable inclusion of Bang Zoom! as a co-producer, that it might have set back production a bit later. Its always good to hear that my fears are unfounded, or at worst, not as bad as anticipated.

You are absolutely right about the disc art. I was worried about whether or not the screening would come through. I have more than a few series which, sadly, lost the disc art that they had. Very unfortunate indeed.

I understand about copyright issues. Getting the rights from Renjuro Kindaichi, Square-Enix, etc., etc. down the corporate chain can be harrowing. So on to another question. Is it easier to import already copyrighted products to sell? I would imagine that it would be. Obviously, Anime Nation has several Jungle Wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu CDs as well as some books amongst their inventory. Is it possible that we may see an increase in imported products, rather than a larger increase in domestically made products? I understand if you can't get into this, but I must admit that I'm rather curious.

Any potential for a run on TV? I've posted on the Adult Swim boards about how if they have any sense at all they should be pursuing this show with great enthusiasm, but I'm not sure they actually read the boards. Prime time on a network would be even better but I dread the "helpful editing" that comes with such an arrangement - wheras Adult Swim has become quite minimalistic with their edits and their audience numbers have become the envy of other networks. Maybe if you asked for a 10:00 or 10:30 time slot...

i think this site could use a fan art page. nothing special, just a place where fans can post pictures they've drawn (or whatever they've whatevered) showing their love for the insanity that is guu.

Hey, I just read on Anime News Network about how the ending theme cannot be used because of copyright issues. I think its such a shame since the ending is great :) If you can, Could you explain what copyright issue came up?

to Snicko:

i assume by OVA you mean Hare+Guu Final. i'm pretty sure the dvds are still being released, Illusions 13 & 14 being the most recent one. all you can do is wait for more Final dvds to come out. i'm not sure how long that series is or will be, but knowing how much people love the show, it may go on for a while.

as for torrents.... BAD BAD BAD! evil! illegal! people work hard and long hours to produce anime series, the LEAST you could do is pay for the dvds. by paying them, you show that you actually appreciate their hard work. how would you feel if you and your friends worked on a show or an album for months or a whole year, spending lots of time and money in the process, only to find that people are getting it online for free?

Let's not forget that fansubs are where most of us heard of the show, but I do believe it's up to those of us who caught it early to pump this show's popularity for when it comes out over here.
Dodging the horrible gray-area of fansubs for the moment, though, will you guys have any new info for Otakon time? Are you trying to get Final now, or are you playing a "wait and see"?
...and how about a trailer made for PSP screen dimensions and format so I can shove the show in front of everybody I know?

I'm not sure if this post belongs here, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a little information on Renjuro Kindaichi. I'm working on a web site where I give a little background information on the creators of different manga/anime. I don't even know if Renjuro is male or female (sorry!)
Thanks for listening!

Oh, is that the author's name? I own the manga and never figured out how that kanji should all be read. ^_^* She's female, at least according to her picture on the dust jacket...

I hear there were preview episodes of the dub at Anime Expo and Otakon. Any chance of these being posted online?
August 22, 2005 | Unregistered CommenterBrian
Unfortunately, there won't be any preview episodes available to download.

Were there going to ever be any more OVAs?

I cannot speak Japanese, so I cannot ask the original producers.
